Displaced in Central Darfur repeat appeal for protection

Representatives of the displaced of Central Darfur have repeated an appeal to Unamid to provide protection for the displaced following more attacks by militiamen. Three people were reportedly injured and 27 displaced women beaten with whips by militiamen in Nierteti locality, Central Darfur, on Sunday and Monday. Sources reported to Radio Dabanga that in the region of Kobe, north of Nierteti, seven militiamen assaulted displaced residents tending their farms. This led to the injury of El Sadiq Mohamed El Tahir (42), Adam Suleiman (70), and Adam Mohamed Hussein (35). El Tahir had to be transferred to the Nyala hospital for treatment of his stab wounds. A second incident reportedly occurred in the area of Delgo, west of Nierteti, when, again, militiamen on horses assaulted 20 female displaced by beating them with whips and keeping them for eight hours inside one of the farms in the area. Witnesses also reported about seven other female displaced being exposed to beating with whips by militiamen on Sunday in the area of Kubri El Nahal, south of Nierteti. They describe the security situation as “disastrous” with the continued indiscriminate firing by militias, most recently on Monday. They appealed to Unamid and the UN to act and provide protection for the displaced.
