Two wounded, four ‘missing’ in attack in Gereida, South Darfur

Two people were reportedly wounded and four went missing following an attack by gunmen on a commercial vehicle in Gereida locality, South Darfur, on Friday. One of the survivors told Radio Dabanga that militiamen opened fire on a commercial vehicle transporting a number of passengers returning from shopping in Um Dawanban to the town of Gereida. He reported that the owner of the vehicle, Abbas Hasan Dawelbeit, and another man named Sadig, were injured during the attack. Four passengers are unaccouted for. The witness added that that Dawelbeit, was transferred to Nyala for treatment in critical condition,. According to residents of Donki Abyad, south of Gereida, militiamen beat and lashed a man and his wife in the area. They tied them to a tree and robbed them of their money, belongings and their donkeys. The residents of Gereida, via Radio Dabanga, repeat their concerns about the security situation in the region, demanding the authorities to put an end to the violations and abuses by militiamen and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
