Small protests in Central Darfur and Khartoum after Eid prayers

Residents of Zalingei locality, Central Darfur, performed their Eid el Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) prayer on Tuesday inside the mosques instead of in the public squares. The faithful were guarded by heavily armed security forces and militiamen in Land Cruisers.Yet, after the prayer at Kanjumiya mosque, they chanted slogans such as “The traders in religion killed the people”, “The assassin will be ousted for the people’s comfort” or “We prayed and hailed curses against those who killed our people.” Also in some neighbourhoods of Khartoum people chanted similar slogans after the Eid prayers.West Darfur  Residents of the Sirba camps for the displaced in West Darfur congratulated the people of Darfur, the refugees, the displaced, and the Sudanese in general on the occasion of Eid el Adha, expressing hope that the next year will witness a comprehensive peace and security throughout Darfur and across the country. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, residents of the Sirba camps for the displaced expressed their despair about the price hikes as well as serious shortages of food during the feast. “The joy of slaughtered sheep, new clothing and sweets, that used to fill the Eid days in the past, has disappeared.” The Sirba camps are Kandabi, Sirba, Abu Sarouj, Bir Dageeg, Armin Koul, Bir Saliba, Saraf Jidad and el Ban Jadid. West Darfur
