‘Security in Darfur stabilising’: Sudanese Interior Minister

The Sudanese Interior Minister, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, has announced that insurgency and tribal conflicts in Darfur “have greatly diminished and security is stabilising”. He stated that “the little remaining insecurity will be resolved soon”. Hamid, who presented a report on the situation in Darfur to the political sector of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) stated that the next phase will see the large procedures to resolve and address some of the issues which he described a “small” problems concerning security in Darfur. The spokesman for the NCP’s political sector, Omar Basan, told reporters that the minister emphasised that “the Darfur states are politically stable and secure, except for some tribal conflicts and a few incidents of insurgency”. Basan pointed out that the finalising of stability in Darfur will be processed through “simple arrangements”, as announced by the Sudanese President in his recent speech to the national parliament.
