Two displaced people killed, one raped in West and Central Darfur

Militiamen killed a woman of the Murnei camp for the displaced in West Darfur and raped her 16-year-old daughter on Saturday. A sheikh of Murnei camp reported to Radio Dabanga that on Saturday evening two “government-backed militiamen” attacked the woman and her daughter as they were returnuing to the camp from their farmland in Wadi Korbala, east of Murnei camp. They opened fire on the mother when she tried to defend her daughter and shot her dead. They then alternately raped the daughter, and did not release her until late on Saturday night. The sheikh said that they filed a complaint with the police and Unamid, adding that the camp residents are continuously exposed to assaults, murders, rapes, beatings and robberies by “government-backed militiamen”, in particular on weekly market days. He appealed to the authorities and Unamid to protect them. Bindisi A resident of Bindisi camp for the displaced in Central Darfur was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Saturday. An eyewitness told Radio Dabanga that two militiamen attacked Yousef Adam at about 5pm on Saturday evening when he was returning to the camp on a motorcycle after a visit to the Mukjar market. “Adam defended himself and stabbed one of the attackers, while the other opened fire and killed him on the spot.
