Ransom demand for abducted policeman in Central Darfur

An armed group abducted a policeman from Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur on Tuesday A relative reported to Radio Dabanga that policeman Abdallah Mohamed Mukhtar, who works for the Department of Detention in Zalingei, earlier shot a prisoner dead when he tried to escape.  In response, the family of the dead man raised a case demanding ‘blood money’. The judge, however, rejected the case on the grounds that the policeman had performed his duty.  On Tuesday evening, a few days after the verdict, an armed group stormed the house of Mukhtar in Zalingei and took him to an unknown destination. The group contacted the policeman’s relatives, demanding a ransom equivalent to the amount of the blood money. File photo
