Sudan rebels shell Kadugli after army attack

The Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) shelled military targets inside Kadugli on Wednesday, according to the spokesperson for the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N). Arnu Ngutulu Lodi reported to radio Dabanga that “in retaliation to the 45 Katyusha rockets fired on Sunday and Monday by the Sudanese army at the area of Korongo, we shelled those very locations the rockets were fired from”. The commissioner of Kadugli locality, Abu El Bashr Abdelgadir, reported that one woman was killed and four others were injured by the SPLM-N shelling. He confirmed that the rebels targeted Kadugli town with nine rockets that hit the neighbourhoods of Kelimo, Radeef, and Ga’ar Hajar, considering “the shelling a desperate attempt by the rebels after their forces were defeated in recent clashes”. Lodi strongly denied the commissioner’s words and called on all civilians “to stay away from military compounds and militia camps as they are targeted by the SRF”. Residents in Kadugli told Radio Dabanga that the authorities had closed the schools, government institutions and shops since Monday morning. They said that the shelling on Wednesday by the rebels began at about 10am, lasting for half an hour. The missiles fell close to the Ministry of Physical Planning, the Headquarters of the Popular Defence Forces, the Ministry of Finance and the main police station. Many people fled to the outskirts of the city. There were also incidents of robbery, the sources added.
