Sudanese refugees in Chad reject removal of camp hospital
The residents of the Kounongou refugee camp in eastern Chad have rejected the Chadian government’s decision to move the camp hospital to a place located 3km northwest of the camp. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, one of the camp sheikhs said that they were notified about the Chadian authorities’ decision by the organisations operating in the camp. “The decision was made under the pretext that we have been residing in Chad for ten years and now we have to integrate in the Chadian community.” The sheikh explained that the refugees do not see any “logical reasons” for the transferral of the hospital. “And the people do not have the means to transport patients to a hospital outside the camp.” He called on the organisations working in the camps to act and prevent the implementation of the decision.
