75 bombs on Jebel Marra since Sunday – thousands displaced

The spokesman for the Association of Displaced People and Refugees of Darfur, Hussein Abu Sharati, says that the population of Rokoro locality to the west of Jebel Marra has been exposed to continuous aerial bombardments since Sunday. Abu Sharati explained that heavy clashes continue between government forces and the Sudan Liberation Movement commanded by Abdel Wahid El Nur (SLM-AW). Therefore Sudanese Air Force’s Antonovs have dropped 75 bombs on densely populated areas in the middle of East Jebel Marra, on Rokoro locality, Golo, Sabanga, Tibun, Duli, Buri, Tiru, Kilein, Karmak and Dana. Most of the houses and farms in these areas are on fire. The people fled into the mountains, valleys and forests. There are large numbers of women, children, handicapped and elderly missing so far. The number of dead and wounded is not yet clear, Abu Sharati said. The Association of Displaced People and Refugees of Darfur requested human rights organisations to immediately access East Jebel Marra and save the lives of “defenceless and innocent civilians”. Abu Sharati also demanded from the Unamid forces “already present in Darfur” to intervene in the areas of conflict between the government forces and the SLM-AW, and to help the dispersed people who lost their homes and farms. He called on the UN, the international community and humanitarian organisations to “at least take these vulnerable people into account, who have been so violently displaced”.
