Rebels claim victory over army convoy in South Kordofan
Dozens of army and militia troops were reportedly killed on Saturday by rebel forces in the area of Trogi, south of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan. Jibril Adam Bilal, spokesman for the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), reported to Radio Dabanga that JEM forces, under the banner of the SRF, on Saturday attacked a “major military convoy”, composed of Sudanese army troops and militiamen in the area of Trogi, in Buram locality.Dozens were killed, the spokesman said, among them four officers: Col. Ibrahim Ahmed, Maj. Osman El Asam, Maj. Omar El Dikheiri, and Lt. Mohamed Ali Jakki. Many were wounded and others captured. The attackers destroyed a T55 tank and seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition. Bilal added that the rebel forces also have besieged another military convoy, with Sudanese army troops and militiamen, in the area of Jau. “The defeat of this convoy is only a matter of time, because it is surrounded.” The spokesman for the Sudanese Armed Forces, Col. El Sawarmi Khaled Saad, acknowledged the attack, explaining that the army forces were able to enter the areas of Trogi, Angolo, and El Dabkaya and expel “the insurgents” .
