‘Health of injured Sudanese demonstrators deteriorating’: Solidarity Committee
The Sudanese Committee for Solidarity with the Families of the Killed, Wounded and Prisoners reported that the health conditions of those who were wounded during the ‘September demonstrations’ are deteriorating. The head of the Solidarity Committee, and one of the leaders of the Sudanese Communist Party, Siddig Yousef reported during a press conference on Saturday in Khartoum that Committee members had visited school and university students Ahmad Hamadoun Mohamed (16), shot in the jaw, Esam Abdelhamid, whose bullet wound resulted in the removal of his colon, Khalid Babiker Mohamed, of whom a part of his small intestines was removed and still having a bullet in his stomach, Nazeer Ibrahim, shot in the head, and Mumin Mohamed Hamdan, of whom the bullet in his chest has not been removed so far. The Solidarity Committee confirmed that more than 200 demonstrators are still suffering from critical injuries. Early December 2013, the National Consensus Forces (NCF, an alliance of opposition parties) launched the Solidarity Committee with the aim of providing “psychological, emotional, legal and material support to the families of the victims fallen the different states of Sudan”. According to the NCF, about 1,000 people were injured, and 300 killed or went missing during the demonstrations that broke out in the last week of September in protest against the government’s removal of fuel subsidies and the ensuing price hikes.
