Dead, injured, WFP stocks stolen as gunfire rakes Darfur
Three people have been killed and others injured in violent incidents across Darfur. A listener told Radio Dabanga that government-backed militiamen opened fire on a commercial vehicle en route from Tito to Gireida in South Darfur. It was loaded with passengers and their shopping. One passenger named Ahmed, was shot and killed. The men also stole the passengers’ money and possessions. Two brothers died when members of an armed group opened fire on a commercial vehicle en route from Saraf Omra to Birkat Seira, North Darfur. Abu Shama Mustafa Abakar and his brother died; a relative of the deceased told Radio Dabanga that one of the assailants was arrested. On Saturday, armed men stole food stocks belonging to the World Food Programme (WFP) destined for Fata Borno, Kutum locality in, North Darfur. One of the sheikhs of the camp told Radio Dabanga that seven gunmen in a Land Cruiser raided the headquarters of the World Food Programme in the camp, beat and bound the guards of the WFP office, stole 40 large sacks (about100kg) of sorghum and fled. Sheikh confirmed that the incident was reported to the army and the security apparatus and the police but no one moved to prosecute the offenders.File photo
