Abu Tira troops beat, rob Otash camp residents in South Darfur

Five residents of the Otash camp for the displaced in South Darfur were seriously injured on Saturday in an attack by the Central Reserve Forces (Abu Tira). Speaking to Radio Dabanga, one of the Otash camp sheikhs camp reported that that Abu Tira troops stormed the camp on Saturday evening and began robbing the camp residents at gunpoint “house by house”. The robbing lasted from 8pm until 2am on Sunday morning.They beat Sheikh Salih, a guard of the camp’s water station, and his wife Zeinab. They took SDG60 ($10.50) from Salih as well as fuel and batteries from the station. His neighbour Adam Abdel Jabbar was hit too, and his legs were broken. Ibrahim Hussein was wounded in the chest and his hands. His money and mobile telephone were stolen. Abdallah Ali’s legs were broken too when he was beaten, and robbed of SDG50 ($8.75). The camp elder said that the attacks were reported to the police and Unamid, who did not move to prosecute the offenders.
