Sudanese high-level meeting ‘to restore order’ in North Darfur
The Sudanese Presidency has directed the security forces and the Sudan Armed Forces to carry out their duties, and demanded from the Ministry of Defence to restore order in North Darfur. In a high-level meeting in El Fasher today it was decided to “take urgent humanitarian measures” in the areas affected by fighting in North Darfur, and reinforce the civil administration. An urgent high-level meeting was convened in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, today (Sunday), attended by Second Vice-President Hassabo Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Defence Minister Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein, the director of the National Security and Intelligence Services, Mohamed Atta El Mawla, and the Governor of North Darfur, Osman Kibir. It was decided to “take urgent humanitarian measures” in the areas affected by fighting in the eastern parts of North Darfur, in Alliet, El Taweisha and Kalamindo localities, and in the western part of the state, in Saraf Omra locality, the Governor of North Darfur announced in a press statement after the meeting. An agreement signed by the officials at the meeting also proposed to reinforce the civil administration. Concerning the situation in Saraf Omra, Kibir said that the Second Vice President has directed Sudanese ministries and service institutions to send their most capable employees to North Darfur, “within 24 hours”, to address the humanitarian situation in the locality. He also issued administrative directives for the local authorities and communities to “jointly enhance the social fabric in the state”, and support the army troops.
