Exhausted displaced still arrive at South Darfur camps

Villagers, who fled from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces attacks on the area southeast of Nyala on 28 February, continue to arrive at South Darfur camps for the displaced. About 300 households arrived to the Dereig camp for the displaced in Nyala locality, last Sunday. A camp sheikh described to Radio Dabanga the conditions of the newly displaced as “extremely dire, as they were carrying nothing other than the torn clothes on their bodies”.  “The Rapid Support militias robbed them of all their money, property, livestock, and crops.” The Sudanese Humanitarian Affairs Commission (HAC) on Monday conducted an inventory, and registered the new arrivals. “HAC promised to help them but has done nothing so far.” The sheikh called on humanitarian organisations to “accelerate rescuing these newly displaced people, who are living in the open without shelter, food, or medicines”. El Salam camp Newly displaced people also continued to flock into El Salam camp, Bielel locality. On Wednesday 35 households consisting of 171 people from Sani Deleiba arrived at the camp. Sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya described their situation as “very bad”. “They are urgently in need of help, and the registration is taking too much time.” Tabaldiya reiterated his call to “all the humanitarian organisations to speed up the provision of aid to those newly displaced people”. He urged HAC and the International Organisation for Migration to “accelerate the registration of the newly displaced, so that they will be able to receive food, water, water, medicine, clothing, and mattresses as soon as possible”.
