‘Unamid should resume night patrols’: Central Darfur camp coordinator

The residents of the Hamidiya camp for the displaced, Zalingei locality in Central Darfur, are complaining about the ongoing shooting into the air at night. The camp coordinator demands from Unamid to re-establish its night patrols for the protection of the displaced. “Government-backed militiamen have been continuously shooting into the air above the Hamidiya camp from 9pm until 4am very night since three days,” the coordinator of the Central Darfur camps for the displaced told Radio Dabanga. “The ongoing sounds of gunfire is terrorising the camp residents, in particular the children and women.” The camp coordinator also reported that the head of the water committees of Hamidiya camp’s Block Six, Abdel Rahman Ishag Adam, was shot by troops of the Central Reserve Forces (Abu Tira) when he was on his way home to the camp. He escaped the murder attempt as the bullets failed to hit him. “Unamid should assume its responsibility for the protection of the displaced, and re-establish its night patrols, that were halted some time ago,” the coordinator demanded.
