Massive fire destroys 300 houses in South Darfur

A massive fire has destroyed 300 houses and large amounts of agricultural stocks in Dimsu locality, South Darfur, on Saturday. “The losses have been estimated at about SDG4 million ($700,000), Gurashi Tibin, the executive director of Dimsu locality said in a press statement on Sunday. He reported that 2,600 families were affected by the fire as they lost all their property, including their agricultural stocks. Tibin attributed the fast spreading of the fire to the hard winds and the fact that the houses are made of straw. He appealed to “the benevolent” to provide assistance to the affected families especially as they have lost their stocks of food and seeds. File photo
