Mother and child shot dead in North Darfur ambush

A woman and her baby were shot dead in an ambush of a passengers’ lorry on the El Sareif-Kabkabiya road in North Darfur on Monday. One of the relatives of the deceased told Radio Dabanga that government-backed militiamen on camels and horses opened fire on a passengers’ lorry, on its way from Saraf Omra to Kabkabiya on Monday afternoon. The bullets instantly killed a woman from the Dankoj camp for the displaced in Saraf Omra locality, and her five-month-old daughter. Other passengers were injured. “The passengers escaped further assaults and robbery because the lorry driver did not stop, despite the heavy firing at the vehicle,” the source added.
