Housing projects to be implemented in East and West Darfur
The Sudan National Housing Fund, the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), and the governments of the Darfur states have agreed on a joint housing project for the war-affected region. Dr Ghulameldin Osman Adam, the Secretary-General of the National Housing Fund, told the press on Wednesday that the Fund, the DRA, and the Darfur states governments agreed on a joint initiative to urgently start implementing housing projects in Darfur. Adam said that he had emphasised the importance of housing the affected in Darfur and provide them with basic services, including education and health, in a meeting with the Governor of East Darfur State, Col. El Tayeb Abdel Karim, at the Real Estate Bank in Khartoum on Wednesday morning. The executive director of the National Housing Fund, Dr Abdel Rahman El Tayeb, stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of the initiative and the expansion of housing projects in Darfur “because of its direct impact on the stability of the living conditions of the people”. He announced that during the meeting an agreement has been reached on the establishment of a portfolio financing the housing projects in East Darfur State. “The portfolio starts with a capital of SDG40 million ($6,985,780), commissioned by the Export Development Bank. The same bank also heads the portfolio for housing projects in West Darfur, with an initial capital of SDG30 million ($5,239,330).
