Woman raped in North Darfur; commission to investigate murder of two women

Militiamen raped a young woman from the Rwanda camp for the displaced in Tawila locality, North Darfur, on Saturday. “Two government-backed militiamen assaulted a young woman (16) when she was collecting straw at a distance of 2km south of the camp on Saturday afternoon,” a  sheikh of the Rwanda camp told Radio Dabanga. “They beat her with whips before the raped her alternately for five continuous hours.” “She was found thrown on the ground in a bad condition. She was transferred to the hospital of Tawila, where they moved her again to a hospital in El Fasher. The sheikh added that a complaint was filed with the police. Commission of inquiry The Sudanese Committee for Solidarity with the Families of the Killed, Wounded, and Prisoners, announced the formation of a commission of inquiry into the killing of Khadija Mohamed Suleiman of El Salam camp for the displaced in South Darfur, and Halima Yousif Yagoub of the Garsila camp in Central Darfur on Thursday. In two separate incidents, both women were murdered when they resisted an attempted rape by militiamen. The chairman of the Solidarity Committee, Siddig Yusuf, called upon the Sudanese government to deter the militias, and provide justice to the families of the victims. “Two government-backed militiamen assaulted a young woman (16) when she was collecting straw at a distance of 2km south of the camp on Saturday afternoon,” a  sheikh of the Rwanda camp told Radio Dabanga. “They beat her with whips before the raped her alternately for five continuous hours.”

“She was found thrown on the ground in a bad condition. She was transferred to the hospital of Tawila, where they moved her again to a hospital in El Fasher. The sheikh added that a complaint was filed with the police.
