Food rations stopped in South Darfur camps – WFP not informed

The displaced in the Kubum and Shattai camps in South Darfur have not received any food rations for nine months, without the knowledge of the UN World Food Programme (WFP). A resident of the Kubum camp for the displaced reported to Radio Dabanga that the food rations allocated by the WFP to the Kubum and Um Labasa camps in Kubum locality, and the Duggo Dosa and Haboba camps in Shattai locality, have not been distributed for a period of nine months. “The 3,500 displaced in Kubum camp are surviving in a dire humanitarian situation. The heads of the Kubum and Shattai camps went to the WFP administration in Nyala to ask them about the reasons for not receiving food rations for nine months. They were surprised when WFP officials told them that they were not aware about the stoppage of the distribution.”   The resident appealed via Radio Dabanga to the UN and the WFP to speed up resolving the problems regarding the food rations, and provide the displaced with plastic sheets. “The covers we received three years ago have become worn-out.” File photo: WFP distribution in Kassab camp, North Darfur (Albert González Farran/Unamid)
