International water contract for South Darfur’s dried Nyala

Both the Second Vice-President, Hasabo Mohamed Abdel Rahman, and the Governor of South Darfur attended a contract ceremony in Khartoum on Thursday, held for supplying Nyala city with drinking water from the Baggara Basin, at the cost of 100 million pounds ($17,4 million). Maj. Gen. Adam Mahmoud Jarelnabi of South Darfur announced that the contract will be implemented by the United Arab Emirates and an Egyptian company specialised in digging wells and electricity connection. The water pipes’ work will be implemented by a Czech company. The Governor pointed out that signing this contract will provide “a final and radical solution to the problem of water in Nyala”. He confirmed that the project also deals with the dams of Romalya and Bilail, explaining that the latter dam’s work had begun and will end in three week’s time. The dam will provide water to the city. “The project of water supply of Nyala is a dream come true,” Jarelnabi said.
