Registration new displaced in South Darfur camp still incomplete

The more than 6,000 newly displaced at El Salam camp in Bielel locality, South Darfur, will be subject to a re-registration and verification procedure, starting today. “The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that it would start on Monday with re-registration and verification of the 6,387 newly displaced,” El Salam camp sheikh, Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya told Radio Dabanga. “The IOM said that they will verify 25 names a day.” Tabaldiya demanded from the organisation to speed up the verification process, and provide the newly displaced with food, medicines, and plastic sheets “as soon as possible”. At the end of February and the first day of March, more than 100 villages southeast of South Darfur’s capital Nyala, were attacked by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The villages were razed to the ground, causing the displacement of tens of thousands of people.
