Sudan to evacuate Darfuris in Central African Republic
The Sudanese government will try to convince the Darfuris living in the Bembere refugee camp, Central African Republic (CAR), to return to Sudan. Since a civil war erupted in CAR in December 2012, all but ten Sudanese in CAR’s capital of Bangui, have been evacuated, the consul of Sudan in CAR, Mohammed Dahiya, stated on Saturday. A Sudanese government delegation, led by the speaker of the parliament, El Fateh Izzeldin, arrived to Bangui on Saturday, and “provided food and medical assistance for those affected by the conflicts in CAR”. The residents of the Bembere camp have been living in fear and terror because of the rampant security in the country. More than once they complained to Radio Dabanga about the extremely difficult humanitarian, health, and security situation they have been in since the start of the civil war. Since relief organisations left the camp, the Bembere refugees are suffering from a severe shortage of food and medicines. The Sudanese consul said that his government will try to convince “the 500 Sudanese living in the Bembere refugee camp” to return to Sudan. According to the head of the camp, Abdel Rahman Ismail, 2,200 Darfuri refugees populate the camp.
