Three women raped in South Darfur
Three displaced women of El Salam camp in South Darfur were raped by militiamen on Monday morning. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Sheik Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya reported from El Salam camp that a bus with 14 displaced en route from Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, to the camp, broke down in the area of Beroma on Monday morning. “When the driver was repairing the bus, suddenly three Janjaweed, wearing military uniforms, on camels appeared. They robbed Mohamed Adam Ibrahim of SDG200 ($35), and the bus driver of SDG60 ($10). They also took their mobile telephones. They then took three women, two of them married, to a place not far from the bus, and raped them.” The camp sheikh not only strongly condemned the rape, but added that he was shocked about the occurrence of rape in broad daylight during the fasting month of Ramadan. He demanded from the South Darfur authorities and Unamid to intensify patrolling for the protection of the “fasting displaced, inside and outside the camp”.
