Three North Darfur girls raped by militiamen
Three girls were raped by militiamen in Atabra area, 15km west of Tawila in North Darfur, on Saturday.Omda Musa Mukhtar Bosh told Radio Dabanga that pro-government militia elements, riding on the backs of camels and horses, attacked 20 women who were working in farms in Atabra. They seized three girls, aged 14, 15, and 16, and repeatedly raped them. The other women managed to escape. He added that the rape victims were transferred to the centre of Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders for treatment. They also reported the incident to the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (Unamid). Bosh added that the gunmen threatened to beat and kill “whoever goes out for farming”, on the pretext that “all the farmlands have become pastures for their cattle and camels”.
