Torrents destroy 460 homes in West Darfur

Rains and floods destroyed more than 460 homes in the camps for the displaced in Kereinik locality, West Darfur, on Wednesday and Thursday. “Torrential rains on Thursday led to the flooding of Bari and Azum valleys which in turn swept the shelters of Murnei camp. More than 400 homes were wiped away, and the belongings of hundreds of displaced were damaged. The families are now living out in the open, without shelter or food’, one of the camp sheikhs told Radio Dabanga. He appealed to the National Humanitarian Aid Commission and humanitarian organisations to immediately intervene and provide food, plastic sheets and tents to the affected households.  In the Ardamata camp 60 homes collapsed by downpours on Wednesday and Thursday. Almost all the shops and stores were flooded, and the food they contained was spoiled, a resident of Ardamata camp told Radio Dabanga.
