Sudan opposition leader rejects Police medics

The detained chairman of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), Ibrahim El Sheikh, who was transferred on Sunday from En Nahud prison to a hospital in Burri in Khartoum, needs to undergo a surgical operation. The SCP insists that the operation will be conducted by a well-known medical team. Mastour Adam, SCP’s political secretary, told Radio Dabanga that security officers notified El Sheikh’s relatives that the operation would be conducted in the Police Hospital in Khartoum, and that his family is not allowed to accompany him. “Both the Party and El Sheikh rejected the Police Hospital. We want the operation to be done by doctors we trust. The security service, however, refused, and insisted on conducting the operation on Monday in the Police Hospital.” Mastour added that the SCP holds the government responsible for the deteriorating condition of its leader.  Ibrahim El Sheikh was detained on 8 June by security forces in his hometown En Nahud, West Kordofan, on charges of undermining the Sudanese Constitution, after he had publicly denounced the widespread attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on civilians in Darfur and Kordofan. The SCP announced later that their leader had expressed the official party opinion.After his health condition significantly worsened last week, the SCP leader was transferred from En Nahud prison to the Burri hospital in Khartoum on Sunday.
