Omda, four villagers abducted in Kutum, North Darfur

Five people were abducted by gunmen in Kutum locality, North Darfur, in two separate incidents on Thursday and Sunday. Omda Ahmed Ishag was kidnapped from inside his house in Kafi village near Kutum town, by gunmen in two Land Cruisers, on Thursday, a listener from the village told Radio Dabanga. “We have not heard from the kidnappers since.” Four others were abducted on Sunday from Abdel Shakur village, north of Kutum. “A group of militiamen stormed Abdel Shakur village under the pretext of searching for stolen camels. They captured four men, and beat them severely in front of all the people”, a villager reported to Radio Dabanga from Abdel Shakur. “Three other men were beaten, but were not taken. The abducted are Mohamed Ismail Mohamed Hassan, Ahmed Ismail Mohamed Hussein, Abdul Rahman Haroun Ibrahim, and Ishag Mohamed Idris.” The villager said that the kidnappers took the four men as “compensation for the allegedly stolen camels”.
