Gunmen kill, injure displaced in Darfur

A resident of Kondobe camp in Sirba locality, West Darfur, was shot dead on Saturday when he was tending his farmland. In South Darfur, a woman of El Salam camp was shot by three gunmen inside her home on Saturday. “Three armed men assaulted Ibrahim Mohamed on Saturday, while he was working on his farm. Mohamed tried to defend himself with a knife, whereupon they shot him dead on the spot,” Abdallah Torelshin, Commissioner of Sirba locality told Radio Dabanga. “A team of police, security, army forces, and local citizens managed to capture the assailants.” The Commissioner denied that the security situation in Sirba has deteriorated. However, the coordinator of Kondobe camp said that the security situation has become extremely dire these days. “This month, more than six displaced were killed on their farmlands.” “The Kondobe camp residents were outraged about the murder of Mohamed, and stated they would only bury him after the killers were arrested.” The camp coordinator appealed via Radio Dabanga to the West Darfur State government and Unamid to intervene, and protect the displaced and the residents of Sirba locality. El Salam camp In South Darfur, a woman of El Salam camp was hit by a bullet inside her home on Saturday. Sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya of the camp told Radio Dabanga that Nemat Hassan was shot by three “government-backed militiamen”, and had to be transferred in critical condition to a hospital in neighbouring Nyala, the capital of South Darfur. Tabaldiya said that the displaced consider the attack as part of the attempts by the South Darfur State government to empty the camp. File photo
