Health situation deteriorating in West Darfur’s Murnei camp
The humanitarian and health situation at Murnei camp for the displaced in Kereinik locality, West Darfur, has rapidly deteriorated over the last two months. A Murnei camp elder told Radio Dabanga that the 127,000 camp residents are malnourished, and prone to diseases like malaria. “Many people, in particular children, suffer from diarrhoea.” “Moreover, there is a severe shortage of affordable medicines. The displaced now resort to traditional treatments, as the prices of medicines at the commercial pharmacies have become much too high. ” The elder explained that as a result of this situation, the death toll among the camp residents has significantly risen. He urged relief organisations to increase the food rations for the displaced, provide health care, and medicines.
