Tribal conference to start in Sudan’s West Kordofan

On Tuesday, a reconciliation conference between leaders of the Hamar and Ma’aliya tribes will start in El Fula, West Kordofan. The conference, postponed from 18 July to 23 September, aims at definitely ending the tensions between the warring tribes, after fierce clashes erupted between the Hamar and Ma’aliya in the West Kordofani areas of Shag Hiraf and Um Deiboun, in April this year. At least 50 people were killed. Abdallah Hamdan Tirab, Ma’aliya member of the Sudanese parliament for East Darfur’s Abu Karinka constituency, called through Radio Dabanga upon the warring tribes to “start the reconciliation conference with sincerity, and a positive view about the future”.
