Air raid burns crops in Darfur’s East Jebel Marra

The Sudanese Air Force bombed the area east of Mashrou Abu Zeid in East Jebel Marra on Saturday. On the same day, a man was killed in an armed robbery in East Darfur. According to local residents, the air raids on the area, located 3 km east of Mashrou Abu Zeid, burned vast tracts of farmland. They reported to Radio Dabanga that there were no human fatalities. The fires, however, destroyed all the crops that were about to be harvested. The residents also complained of a marked increase in malaria cases, and the spread of diseases among malnourished children in East Jebel Marra. Armed robbery El Haj Hajo (45) was shot dead by gunmen on his farml in the area of Kharita in East Darfur. The robbers took his property and donkey cart. Hamdan Abdallah Tirab, MP for Abu Karinka constituency, demanded via Radio Dabanga “a complete investigation of the incident”.
