‘SRF, NCF unify to topple Sudan regime’: rebels
The Sudan Revolutionary Front has announced plans to form a broad strategic alliance with the National Consensus Forces, as well as other political opposition parties, in order to topple the regime of President Omar Al Bashir, and hinder the elections scheduled for next year. The alliance of Sudan’s main rebel movements, known as the SRF, confirmed in a press statement that its leaders adopted a unification of all opposition parties, during a recent meeting in Berlin. The rebels’ Foreign Relations Secretary, Yasir Saeed Arman, stated that the regime in Khartoum derives its strength from the weakness, dispersion, and disintegration of the opposition. Their unification would create balance between the regime and its opponents. “The opposition needs to unify itself to become a genuine national alternative for Sudan,” Arman said, stressing the need to topple the regime in Khartoum. The political opposition parties under the banner of the National Consensus Forces (NCF) did not comment yet on the announcement on Thursday.Two-day conference in Berlin The Justice and Equality Movement, the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid El Nur, the faction led by Minni Minawi, and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, met in Berlin under the banner of the SRF last week. The German Berghof Foundation organised the conference, and announced that it will cooperate with Sudanese parties to facilitate a peace process in the country. The process is aimed at achieving peace and a democratic transformation. In November last year, the rebel SRF and the parties under the NCF (the National Umma Party, the Popular Congress Party, and the Sudanese Communist Party, among others) already announced a cooperation, aimed at overthrowing the regime.
