Khartoum hospital strikes after arrests, protest
The workers in the Khartoum Teaching Hospital went on strike on Thursday. Their strike is aimed against the security apparatus’ summons and detentions of several members of the health and medical unions. The union members were detained for three consecutive days yesterday, a witness told Radio Dabanga. When they are released, and the payment of the staff’s benefits is fulfilled, the strikers will continue their work in the hospital, they said. On 30 October, a demonstration at the hospital was violently dispersed by the police, wounding about 12 of the demonstrators. A member of the health and medical union reported to Radio Dabanga how the forces used batons and tear gas to disperse the sit-in, aimed against the Ministry of Health’s decision to evacuate the dialysis section in the hospital.
