Inferno in Red Sea state, eastern Sudan
A number of livestock burned to death, and large quantities of food and fodder were lost in a massive fire that broke out near Port Sudan, Red Sea state, on Friday.
Hamed Idris, former member of the Red Sea legislative council told Radio Dabanga that the fire broke out in a store in Ganab, northwest of Port Sudan, at 9 am.
“The fire spread quickly to the other stores, destroying quantities of beans, sugar cane, and alfalfa worth millions of pounds. A number of donkeys, cows, and calves were killed,” he said.
He said that the fire could not be extinguished, because of a lack of fuel needed to operate the water pump of Ganab.
