Demands for more protection to North Darfur’s new governor
Abdelwahid Yousif Ibrahim is the new Governor of North Darfur state, after Osman Kibir. Displaced people in Zamzam ready their demands for more protection against militiamen.
On Sunday, engineer Abdelwahid Yousif Ibrahim arrived to El Fasher in North Darfur state, to take office as the new State Governor. He succeeds Osman Mohamed Yousif Kibir.
Large crowds welcomed the new governor in El Fasher, who was accompanied by a large delegation from the federal government, Darfuris and members of the National Assembly.
The displaced people in the camps of El Fasher immediately provided a package of demands for Governor Yousif Ibrahim. An activist in Zamzam camp told Radio Dabanga that they demanded “justice, protection of the displaced people in the camps from militia attacks, and the provision of urgent needs in the fields of health, education, and water.
“Farmers and farms should be protected against herders,” the activist stressed. He pointed to the issue of early grazing by livestock, ruining farmlands. He added that women should be protected from attacks, including rape.
