Car of public prosecutor hijacked in Central Darfur

Gunmen hijacked the vehicle of a public prosecutor in downtown Zalingei, capital of Central Darfur, on Saturday.

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, an eyewitness reported that two gunmen intercepted the double-cabin car in Dabkar Street, “near the offices of the paramilitary Popular Defence Forces and the Zakat Chamber, and just a few metres from Zalingei Grand Market.

“The prosecutor and his colleague were told to disembark at gunpoint. They did this without resistance. The gunmen then took the vehicle and fled.”

The residents of Zalingei and the camps for the displaced in the vicinity are suffering from the rapidly growing insecurity in the area, he said.

“Armed robberies and hijacks are the order of the day. We are being terrorised day and night, while the authorities and government forces do not intervene.

“The insecurity is affecting the trade at the markets, and even our tradition to break the fast together in front of our houses.”
