‘Renewed Rizeigat, Ma’aliya fighting in East Darfur contained’
Three people were killed and several others were wounded in new clashes between Rizeigat and Ma’aliya tribesmen in East Darfur’s Sheiria locality on Monday.
East Darfur Police Chief Maj. Gen. Ahmed El Radi told reporters in the state capital of Ed Daein on Tuesday that a joint army, security, and police force was sent to the battle scene. He said that the situation is under control.
‘Fragmentation’
According to the Ma’alia Youth Association the fighting erupted after the East Darfur governor had announced the start of separate reconciliation meetings between the Rizeigat and the Agarba who are one of the most important Ma’aliya clans.
Elazrag Hassan Hemeida, head of the Youth Association, told Radio Dabanga that fragmentation of the Ma’aliya case will weaken the chances of achieving peace in the area. “Moreover, the tribe’s unity is far more important than partial agreements attempting to divide the Ma’aliya.”
