The camp residents of El Fasher, North Darfur, have complained of the bad humanitarian situation in their camps, during a visit of an opposition party. The health, education, and water services are deteriorating and food rations have been reduced to SDG50 ($8.10) per person for a whole month.

The Abu Shouk and El Salam camps were visited by a delegation of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), led by party leader Ibrahim El Sheikh. The displaced people expressed their concerns during the visit.

Omda Adam Mohamed Hassan reported from Abu Shouk that the camp accommodates approximately 75,000 people. “There is one only one general practitioner to treat them.” The Omda added that hundreds of cases of people with mental disorders have emerged.

Ibrahim El Sheikh of the SCP stressed the need to disarm the militias that roam the area, in addition to extending the prestige of the state, and the provision of security. During a speech he made in both camps, he called on the displaced populations to “seize” their rights and “be free of fear”.

The party leader apologised to the displaced people for the delayed visit and expressed sadness about the poor conditions of life in the camps. “These are not up to the standard of human life in the 21st century.”
