Six die in bombardment near Golo in Darfur’s Jebel Marra

Six people were killed and 14 others were wounded in an air raid near Golo in Jebel Marra on Wednesday.

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, multiple witnesses reported that an Antonov dropped seven barrel bombs on the area of Tir Janga, 10 kilometres southeast of Golo in western Jebel Marra.

“The bombing happened at midnight. Abakar Ismail Abdelkarim, El Fadel Yagoub Adam, Abdallah Rahmatallah, Maryam Abdallah, Kaltoum Eisa Juma, and Abdelrahman Ateem were killed instantly,” one of them stated. “The about 5,000 people in the area fled to the mountain top.”

The sources explained that many people fled to the relatively safe and secure Tir Janga area to shelter against the continuous bombing and shelling by government forces that started more than two weeks ago.

They described the situation of the villagers who have taken refuge in the mountains as “very bad because of the freezing cold”.

They appealed to aid organisations to “intervene and save the people, and exert pressure on the government to stop the aerial bombardments”.
