Settlers occupy farms in ‘East Jebel Marra’ in North Darfur
On Monday, a group of new settlers occupied villages and farms in the area of Khazan Tunjur in Tawila locality, North Darfur – which is popularly known as East Jebel Marra.
“Dozens of armed new settlers and militiamen riding in three Land Cruisers and on camels and horses raided the area on Monday afternoon,” a villager told Radio Dabanga from Khazan Tunjur.
He said that Kunjara, Khartoum Jadeed, Sendemo, and Keredeinat are among the villages attacked. “The attackers robbed the villagers of their belongings, even their grain mills. They also stole 61 horses, 45 donkeys, and about 900 sheep and goats.
“They ordered the farmers to leave their lands too. A farmer who resisted was tied up and severely beaten,” the source added. “After the people had all fled towards Zamzam camp for the displaced near El Fasher, the invaders turned the farmlands into pastures for their cattle and camels.”
