Sudan security detains 17 women in Khartoum
Officers of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) detained 15 members of the Sudan Women’s Solidarity Movement (SWSM), as well as two others, who took to the streets in Khartoum North today in protest against the government policies.
The 15 SWSM women and two others were held for more than six hours at the Political Security office in Khartoum North. After questioning they were released.
Journalist and human rights activist Amal Habbani was among them. She told Radio Dabanga that the women were all exposed to verbal and physical abuses while in detention.
“Ahlam, the mother of Hazzaa, who was killed during the September 2013 protests, was with us. She was beaten unconscious. After treatment in a hospital, she was returned to the security office,” she said.
