SPLM-N ‘destroy convoy’ in Kilgo, Blue Nile

On Saturday, combatants of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) reportedly destroyed a military convoy in the area of Kilgo in Blue Nile state.

The rebel fighters inflicted heavy casualties on the army and militia troops, according to spokesman Arnu Ngutulu Lodi in a statement today.

In the battle that lasted from 6.30 am until 5 pm, the Second Blue Nile-Sennar division of the SPLM-N “managed to destroy and rout” a large government convoy near the Kilgo hills, 35 kilometres south of Ed Damazin, capital of Blue Nile state.

Lodi says the fleeing government forces left about 200 dead behind, among them a Colonel who commanded the convoy, a Major, one First Lieutenant, and two Second Lieutenants.

“The rebel fighters destroyed a tank and nine Land Cruisers. They managed to capture seven PKM cannons, three RPG-7 grenade launchers, 24 AKM rifles, and “one lorry full of supplies”.

The rebels lost one combatant and two others were wounded, the spokesman stated.

On 1 February, Lodi announced in a statement that SPLM-N rebel fighters repulsed an attack on their stronghold in the Kilgo hills. “It was the 18th failed attempt by the National Congress Party regime to occupy Kilgo since 2015,” he said.
