Population of South Kordofan ‘victims of both sides’

Both the Sudanese government and the rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) are reportedly assaulting people in South Kordofan.
Both the Sudanese government and the SPLM-N are targeting tribes and individuals in the state on the basis of ethnicity, a workshop on the effects of the civil war on the population of South Kordofan, held in Khartoum on Monday, concluded.
“No one is able walk for as far as six kilometres south or east of Kadugli without being attacked,” Yahya Adam, the Omda of Kadugli, said.
The attacks by government troops on civilians seem to outnumber those by the rebels. Researcher Mohamed Ahmed Babu Nway said that “outlaws among the regular and semi-regular forces” are attacking farmers and herders and in particular water sources in the Nuba Mountains on an almost daily basis.
Villagers being robbed at night has become a regular phenomenon as well, he added.
Activist Munira Abdelfaraj accused the South Kordofan government of detaining innocent people who allegedly support the SPLM-N, and using excessive force against them.
The participants of the workshop further criticised the Governor of South Kordofan, Maj. Gen. Eisa Adam, of taking advantage of his position to propagate the war instead of carrying out his official duties.
