Col. Omar Abdel Rahman Bashari, Chairman of Joint Operations formed of security, the military and the police in North Darfur, says that 32 vehicles and seven motorcycles have been seized since the beginning of a security blitz in and around El Fasher, capital of North Darfur. Ten people have been held for drug offences.

Some of the vehicles were smuggled, some entered the state illegally from neighbouring countries, and others were without licence plates. Seven motorcycles in violation were also seized and ten people were arrested on charges of drug possession.

Col. Bashari said the campaign also aims at banning the carrying of weapons in public places, or wearing the face-covering Kadmol scarf.

He stressed that the campaign will continue until all the illegal aspects disappear.

El Fasher Commissioner, El Tijani Abdallah Saleh, said that there is a directive to control and monitor the vehicles in violation through outlets and gates, adding that vehicles stolen from neighbouring countries have contributed negatively in the development of crime.

Commissioner Saleh said that the seized vehicles will be transferred to the customs administration to take legal action against them.
