A witness told Radio Dabanga that the administration of Ed Daein prison allowed the inmates to break the daytime fast of Ramadan together on Thursday evening. A number of inmates took the opportunity to escape.
The prison guards opened fire into the air, but this did not stop the prisoners; it only created panic among the city’s population.
The witness said that the authorities managed to apprehend most of the fleeing inmates, however seven managed to escape and are still at large.
