Four die of diarrhoea in Sudan’s Kassala

Four people, including a child, died from severe diarrhoea in Kassala state, in the northern area of Dagin Delta.

Eight critical cases of intestinal diarrhoea were reported in the eastern state. Two were transferred to Kassala hospital.

A resident in Dagin Delta, Osman Hashim, attributed the emergence of the diarrhoea to the recent floods. He believed that it is caused by cholera.

Hashim requested the state government to declare the area as a disaster region, and take action.

“The area is devoid of health centres and hospitals, except Aroma's hospital, which is nearly four hours from Dagin area. People use animals to travel on its rugged road,” Hashim said.

The Sudanese authorities said earlier that more than 100 people were killed by rain and flash floods. Mid-August, the most-affected areas were South Darfur, Kassala, Sennar, and West Kordofan.
