North Darfur tribesmen block roads in Kutum locality
Residents of Kutum in North Darfur complain about the closure of all roads in the northern part of the locality by gunmen.
A number of people told Radio Dabanga that El Mahriya tribesmen are blocking the roads north of Kutum town since Monday.
“The action is related to the arrest of the tribe’s chief, Omda Mustafa El Dud Mahdi,” one of them said.
Vehicles moving to Abdel Shakur, Disa, Dor, and Mulagat, and to areas of the Zaghawa tribe in Um Baru, Karnoi, and El Tina, were forced to return to Kutum town.
The gunmen did not abuse or rob the drivers and passengers, but asked them to return to where they came from. “They just told us that the roads would be closed until the authorities respond to their demands – which they did not disclose.”
