50 passengers robbed at gunpoint on Central Darfur road

A bus carrying 50 passengers from the South Darfur capital of Nyala to Bindisi in Mukjar locality, Central Darfur, was held-up by armed highway robbers on Thursday.

One of the passengers told Radio Dabanga that the bus was stopped on the road near Artala. The robbers forced the passengers to get out, beat them with sticks, and then took all their possessions, money, and mobile phones.

He said that the incident was reported to Mukjar police station.

The market and the state schools of Mukjar in Central Darfur have remained closed for the eighth day in a row as the local authorities hold talks to resolve the problems that led to a series of consecutive violent incidents on December 21 and 22 in the locality.

A child and a teacher were killed in a clash between gunmen and displaced people near Mukjar camp in Central Darfur. The next morning, mourners were on their way to bury the victims when a group of armed men on camels and horses attacked the mourners during the burial. Five people were wounded.
